Powerful new People Movement Data analytics tool officially released

The latest version of Planwisely’s People Movement Data module features a new data source that has been expertly validated, tested and refined by VLC, the creators of Planwisely and Australia’s leading transport modelling business.

This new GPS mobility base dataset delivers more robust geocentric insights through the platform’s all-new Home Locations tool, as well as its pre-existing Trips, Length of Stay and Heatmaps analytics tools.

The Home Locations tool allows Planwisely users to see where visitors to a place or area have come from depending on time, geography and distance, making it easy to uncover catchment areas, evaluate performance, access, connectivity and more to get a deeper understanding of who’s visiting and why.

Planwisely’s People Movement Data is created using raw GPS signals that each contain a latitude and longitude, timestamp and an identifier linking the GPS signal to a device via a randomised identifier created by the data provider - allowing for granular movement and place analysis across different periods of time.

This raw data requires advanced data science pipelines to process it into something workable, after which it's tested and validated before being finally being expressed through Planwisely's People Movement Data module. Here's an overview:
